Over 45,000 people attended this conference. Dr. Linden's lecture was well attended by dentists, hygienists, dental assistants, medical professionals and others. This year, his audience included a number of dentists from outside the US who showed strong interest in his work.

Dr. Linden's appointment is within the Section of Oral and Diagnostic Sciences, Division of Periodontics. He taught a course entitled "Lasers in Dentistry". Over 50 doctors, Columbia faculty, periodontal residents, and dental hygienists attended. Dr. Linden will be continuing his teaching and research opportunities at Columbia University in the months ahead.

Dr. Linden discussed the use of ND:YAG laser to treat periodontal disease. The program demonstrated where this specific type of laser therapy can be utilized. Comparisons to traditional periodontal surgery were also presented. The advantages of ND:YAG laser therapy were shown in detail. Clinical cases with full mouth radiographs, clinical photos and years of follow up were demonstrated. Dr. Linden also discussed treatment planning and the integration of the laser in the overall periodontal/restorative plan.

Dr. Eric Linden Appointed as Assistant Clinical Professor in Dental Medicine at Columbia University School of Dental Medicine and Columbia Presbyterian Medical Center
Dr. Linden's appointment is within the Section of Oral and Diagnostic Sciences, Division of Periodontics. He taught a course entitled "Lasers in Dentistry".
Dr. Linden was recently in Los Angeles, California teaching the principles of Laser physics, Laser Periodontal Surgery, and Practice Management to a group of esteemed dentists from Japan, Australia, and the US (photo above). Practice management includes how to explain this innovative laser approach for treating gum disease to patients, other health professionals, and the general public, including the advantages of the laser vs. older techniques.

What is LANAP?
LANAP is an acronym for "Laser Assisted New Attachment Procedure".
Traditionally, moderate to advanced periodontitis, or gum disease, was treated with surgery involving cutting, stitching, and significant recovery time. This invasive approach was often painful, and presented “roadblocks” for patients taking medications such as blood thinners, certain cardiac medications, and other systemic medications that would be contraindicated for traditional periodontal surgery. Although traditional procedures have been successful, our state-of-the-art approach to the treatment of periodontal (gum) disease is more conservative and predictable. With LANAP, we are now able to improve the periodontal health of our patients for many years in a much less invasive way.
LANAP enables a qualified periodontist to treat gum disease much more quickly and easily, with no cutting, stitching, bleeding, or pain. Not all lasers are FDA-approved for this procedure. LANAP is the only FDA approved protocol for the treatment of periodontal disease.More about LANAP.
